They also test edge cases like timezone differences for remote employees, retroactive attendance corrections by managers, and how the system handles public holidays that fall on different dates in different office locations.

Payroll errors directly impact employee trust and can create legal liability. Testers verify that salary information is stored and displayed correctly, that deductions for taxes, benefits, and other items calculate accurately, and that payroll runs produce correct net pay amounts. AI-generated payroll integrations often have rounding errors that accumulate over multiple pay periods, or fail to apply mid-month changes correctly.

Compliance features like mandatory reporting, document retention, and audit trails must work correctly. Testers verify that the system generates required documents like tax forms and employment certificates with accurate data, that document retention policies are enforced, and that every change to employee records is logged with the user and timestamp. They also check that role-based access controls prevent unauthorized viewing of sensitive data like salary information and performance reviews.
